iPhone 17 Alleged Back Panel Shows A Significant Design Change Compared To Previous Models, With A Horizontal Visor Covering The Rear Cameras

iPhone 17 potential design change from the back

Apple has barely focused on the design of its iPhones for the past few generations, with its iPhone 16 range shipping with minor changes that include slightly increased display sizes for the ‘Pro’ models. Naturally, critics will label these aesthetics as bland, and somewhere down the line, even customers will grow tired of being unable to distinguish between the newer models and the older ones, irrespective of the slew of internal upgrades present. Fortunately, the age of similarly-designed iPhones could be coming to an end, with a tipster showing a back panel allegedly belonging to the iPhone 17 that is sporting a horizontal visor and housing a camera cutout at one end.

Horizontal visor belonging to the alleged rear iPhone 17 panel looks similar to Google’s Pixel family, with an LED flash cutout noticed on the right-hand side

An unnamed source sent tipster Majin Bu an image showing what appears to be the back panels of the iPhone 17, but the post on X does not specify which exact model we are looking at. The person who received the image appears to be skeptical but states that if the image ends up being legit, it will reflect the design change we have all been hearing about. We have reported previously that a tipster with the Weibo handle Digital Chat Station shared an iPhone 17 render which showcased a device with the rear sensors horizontally positioned instead of a cluster of cameras on older models.

A rear camera lens cutout can be seen in these images, along with an LED flash cutout present on the right corner. We immediately noticed from the leaked image that the picture shows just a single camera cutout, so if we were looking at the base iPhone 17 or even the iPhone 17 Plus, we should have spotted two of these instead of just one. Then again, it is too early to jump to conclusions because a company as big as Apple would likely be experimenting with multiple design prototypes before the official version gets sent from the trial production phase to the actual production belt.

We cannot vouch for the veracity of this leaked image, and we have to admit that more doubt started developing in our minds when we noticed that there was just a single rear camera cutout instead of two. While Apple can adopt this design for the iPhone 17 launch, we will recommend that our readers treat this leak with a truckload of salt and await further updates.
